The Blacktown Ambulance Superstations is one of five new facilities being developed by NSW Ambulance. The Blacktown structure spans three story’s and includes a basement or under croft carpark, ground floor suspended slab and upper mezzanine floor.ÌýÌýThe building was constructed on a sloping site, bounded by two roads and a shared carriageway, requiring logistics based construction methodology and has been specifically designed to incorporate the NSW Ambulance requirements.ÌýÌýConstruction consisted of conventional concrete framed building with steel roof structure and upper level framing. The Fitout was developed to suite the spatial and functional requirements of the NSW Ambulance incorporating modern security and communications systems that allow the building to be monitored remotely by the NSW Ambulance ICT team.ÌýÌýThere was a requirement to create a temporary road through the middle of the site to maintain access to an adjacent fast food outlet. This road then allowed the construction of the permanent road to be built, which was then used as a platform to construct the building, while also allowing the construction of a new 200M3 OSD tank. The main footprint works were constructed on either side of this temporary road so as not to hold up the programme. Once the permanent road was completed the traffic was diverted to this area to allow the completion of the building.ÌýÌýThe initial sequencing of the works played a large part in achieving the overall programme requirements.ÌýThe works were well executed with due consideration given to the access constraints with a solution developed to ensure the access provisions were maintained without delay to the project.
