The Darling Quarter project is a major 1.5-hectare project that has transformed the public domain of Darling Harbour, one of Australia’s most visited destinations. The new A$500 million mixed use precinct integrates Commonwealth Bank Place, two large campus-styled 6 Star Green Star v3 commercial buildings. It is located within a public domain that comprises a new pedestrian connection, a retail terrace with cafes, restaurants and bars, grassed community areas, children’s theatre and an innovative playground as its centrepiece.
The Darling Quarter and Commonwealth Bank Place development was a challenging construction project that involved a large design and construction team and a prominent public site location. Stakeholder engagement, managing publicity, design innovation, authorities and dealing with difficult ground conditions make this project unique. The construction methodology had to incorporate many challenges including:Ìý

•ÌýÌý ÌýBulk excavation and piling in close proximity to major CBD infrastructure services with the majority below the water table;

•ÌýÌý ÌýExtensive archaeological investigations;
•ÌýÌý ÌýStructural and geometric complexity of the glazed wave form roofs;
•ÌýÌý ÌýInnovative western façade with very clear glass & digital illuminated façade;
•ÌýÌý ÌýComplexity of the children’s water play area;
•ÌýÌý ÌýReconfiguration and augmentation of the Bathurst Street footbridge;
•ÌýÌý ÌýThe technical complexity of the recycled water plant & tri generation system.
